Declan’s early life wasn’t without its challenges. Born prematurely, he faced learning difficulties in school that made the traditional classroom environment a tough fit. But we believe that everyone deserves a chance to succeed—and sometimes, that means looking beyond the textbook.
When Shaun Alwyn took ownership of the Tyres & More® Queenstown store, he saw something special in Declan. He offered him a role on the team—and from day one, Declan grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Eager to learn, he connected naturally with customers, absorbed new skills quickly, and steadily grew in confidence.
Fast forward to January 2025, and Declan had completed his first full year of employment—thriving and making a meaningful impact. Then came the turning point: a training session on wheel balancing with our National Technical Trainer, Shadrack Madiya. It sparked a deeper curiosity and passion in Declan for the technical side of the job.
When an opportunity arose to train as a certified wheel alignment technician, Declan was all in—even though he’d never flown or been to Johannesburg before. Despite language barriers and his learning challenges, no special arrangements were made. He was simply encouraged to give it his all.
And that’s exactly what he did.
Declan aced his theory test with over 80% and completed the course with flying colours. He studied hard, stayed focused, and truly shone during the hands-on practical training—the environment where he thrives.
Today, Declan is a nationally certified wheel alignment technician. His story is proof that with grit, support, and a little grace, anything is possible. He continues to grow and upskill, with a renewed passion for the role he plays in keeping our customers safe on the road.
To every young person out there: Declan’s story is a reminder that your path to success might look different—and that’s perfectly okay. What matters is showing up, staying the course, and believing in your potential.
